The theme that stands out in Fahrenheit 451 is the importance of censorship. This is portrayed by the main character Guy Montag. Guy Montag was the person liked to watch papers being consumed in flames but never questioned the pleasure he got from the burning papers. This all changed when he met the seventeen year old girl. She told him to think freely and choose for himself. This book has many traits of censorship also because it is set in the future and world has changed and many things have been implemented into the society. Censorship is the idea to limit the things viewed by the general public and limit them from acquiring certain items. Today here in America there is censorship but we don’t know about it. Many of these types of censorship are shown in schools, governments, and countries around the world.
A major theme in Fahrenheit 451 is Ignorance. The novel portrayed a world where pleasure is the main priority in life. The burning of books was to keep everyone intellectually similar, to keep everyone content with their intelligence and not feel degraded by another’s intelligence. Intelligence is replaced with pleasure on every level. Encouraging people to have fun and play all day and worry about nothing. Anyone who showed signs of intellect was monitored. Clarisse was considered a threat because of her yearning to know “why”, and not “how”. Anyone who had books was considered a threat to the order of this intellectual stand still and would be arrested and their books burned. Ignorance is a part of society. Political rulers in some countries will keep their people ignorant of what government is doing to keep them from rebelling against them. In other countries, people are forbidden from questioning the works of the upper class or of influential outsiders, such as the clergy.
A major theme to me that stands out in Fahrenheit 451 is courage. This theme is portrayed in a world where Guy Montag, the protagonist, lives in horror. This is because whoever posesses important books, such as Shakespeare, would be thrown into a mental hospital and their fate would be unknown. After Beatty finds out Guy has secretly hidden books, he then realizes Guy thinks books are a big deal. So, Guy kills Beatty with the flame- thrower so nobody will arrest him. Guy then becomes a fugitive on the run. He knows that he is nervous, but knows strength and belief will overcome this obstacle. This book has many traits of courage that stand out in today's society. An example of this is after the 9/11 attack, Americans were frustrated and heartbroken with what had just happened. But soon after, they realized that they needed strength and courage to continue on with their lives. This is exactly how Guy overcame getting arrested, with lots of courage and strong belief!
The main theme in the novel Fahrenheit 451 is the overuse of technology in society. In the novel, Mildred, Montag’s wife, was so obsessed with the technology that she shut out most of the world, much like the rest of society in this book. The people in this world were always in their parlor rooms watching television, as well as always having some sort of gadget in their ears, most likely for radio or music. The citizens were so absorbed with this type of lifestyle, and constantly having fun, that things, such as death, seemed to only exist on television and in movies. This lifestyle, though not as extreme as in the novel, is very similar to what our world has become today in terms of technology. People constantly have their cell phones open and in use, iPod head phones are always in the ears, people can’t step outside without missing their favorite program on television, and social media becomes their social lives. We are all in our own little bubble, and we can’t seem to step out of it, much like the characters in this novel. As what was seen in the novel, this could become a major problem.
The theme that comes clear to me in the novel Fahrenheit 451 is censorship. Society has changed to such a level that all books are illegal to own. No longer can books be read, not only because they might offend someone, but because books raise questions that often lead to revolutions. They raise these laws because they insist on having equality in the futuristic lifestyle which only proves the theme of censorship correct in the novel. Guy Montag was led on by censorship because he was employed as a fireman to terminate books and not to actually put out fires. Society is very fragile when it comes to adversity and is very diverse today. Censorship is a hidden theme in our society today that can only be obtained by exploring the facts of the matter that correspond to how we operate around the world.
As a reader a major theme that stands out in Fahrenheit 451 is the conflict between knowledge and ignorance. Guy Montag in his belief that knowledge rules, fights against a society that embraces and celebrates ignorance. The fireman's responsibility is to burn books, and therefore destroy knowledge. Through his actions, the fireman promotes ignorance to continue the pleasure and sameness of society. After meeting Clarisse, Montag finds himself unable to accept the fact that life is more complete, true and satisfying when knowledge is welcomed into it. After making this discovery, Montag starts to fight against ignorance, trying to help others welcome knowledge (books) into their own lives. For example, when Montags wife's friends come over, he forces them to listen to poetry. Although they become extremely upset after listening to what he reads, they are able to experience true emotion. In Montag's view, this emotion will give these women a fuller and more satisfying life. This theme is relevant to today's world because many people are ignorant and avoid knowledge to be socially accepted. When they hear a person saying something smart they look at them as lifeless, but really a society filled with knowledge is never a negative thing as learned by Guy Montag.
The main idea of Fahrenheit 451 is censorship. Throughout the book we follow Guy Montag and his struggles with censorship. In Montag society their firefighters do not put out fire but they start fires to burn all the books in that society. People in Montag world are not allowed to read book so that everyone is equally intelligent. After a while Montag starts to wonder about book and literature. He starts reading and someone calls the firemen to burn all his books. Montag runs away because he was supposed to be arrested for having books in his house. After running from the hound, Montag meets this group of people who are quite intelligent. Due to the books being banned, no one in Montag’s society can remember anything for long except for the rebellious intelligent group. At one point Montag says, “But I’ve forgotten!’ said Montag. ‘No, nothing’s ever lost. We just have ways to shake down your clinkers for you.’ ‘But I tried to remember,’ said Montag. ‘Don’t try. It will come when we need it. All of us have photographic memories, but we spend a lifetime learning how to block off the things that are really in there.”(151) Shown in the quote, the reader can see that this society has been lacking intellect which is relevant to today because if censorship were allowed in today’s society then the world would not be so advanced like it is.
The theme that struck me the most in the novel Fahrenheit 451 was the dependence on technology and how it came to replace humanity. Everyone in the novel is so dependent on technology that they cant even appreciate life without it. For example, when Guy Montag meets Clarisse McClellan, she introduces him to many life values that he would have never came to realize on his own. Clarisse is aware of all these values because she takes time to appreciate life and nature. Shes able to do this because she isnt so caught up with technology. Because of Clarisse's high level of intelligence everyone thinks shes weird and antisocial. Fahrenheit 451 is a negative utopia where learning is forbidden and intelligence is looked down upon. Another example of this theme is on page 77 when Millie chose her technological family over her husband. This book relates to today because the dependence on technology is constantly growing and one day it could possibly end up like this negative utopia if we dont stop.
A theme that is present in Fahrenheit 451 is courage and bravery. In the novel books are banned by the government, so every time someone is found with books, the inside of the house is burnt. Some people are so attached to there books that they choose to burn with them, like the old woman who chose to burn with her books. Guy Montag is one of the few people who see what is wrong with their world. He sees the importance of books, communication, slowing down, and allowing yourself to feel emotions. He has the courage to devise a plan to try to get the world to see these things. He was brave in that he was able to leave everything he had to fight for what he believed in, even if it meant standing alone. This is seen in today’s world through people who fight against prejudice and stereotyping. People such as gays who have been fighting for there rights since the 1960s and are still fighting. Muslims in America are also fighting against stereotyping because a lot of people see them and think they are terrorists, but there really just normal people.
An important theme in the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is instant gratification. They choose to destroy books because they are a waste of time, when in reality the books are where knowledge comes from. They destroy them so that one man is not smarter then the next, but a balance of knowledge in society is necessary to have. Clarisse and her family were the only ones left in the neighborhood that really understood the importance of nature and knowledge. Guy Montag's mind changed from the gratification he gained from burning books, to understanding and accepting the knowledge books have inside of them after he met Clarisse, who was different from society. In todays society there is a lot of young people watching television and playing video games for instant gratification rather then reading a book and gaining knowledge.
A major theme in Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, was the role of Technology in everyday life. Things like "parlors", or what we know as Television, to other items like the earpiece Montag and Faber were communicating with completely take over people’s life. Even other living beings like Dogs are being replaced by Mechanical Hounds which live in the firehouse. Because all these new pieces of technology consume their lives, things which they used to value were completely ignored. Only people like Clarisse, Faber and the group of men Guy meets on the railroad still acknowledge these values because they are not caught up in the advancing technology in the world and because of it society does not accept them. Although there are some people in our society the majority are not that drastically attached to technology. For example, almost every person you will see has a cell phone. Rather than talking to someone face to face, they will either text or call them. Another is example is a computer. People browse the internet looking for information rather than going to a library and finding a book reading a newspaper. These examples provide evidence of our society’s slow decent to the society in the novel Fahrenheit 451.
The theme that stands out to me the most in Fahrenheit 451 is the amount of mass media in society. Media takes over the people’s everyday lives, and is more real than the actual people living in society. The people in society are unable to read or learn new ideas. This is illustrated through Mildred Montag, who cares more about her “TV family” than her husband, Guy Montag. When Guy tries to talk to her and make a connection she resists him and tries to tell him about the new drama in her television show. She has a deeper connection to her television set that covers three walls of her living room than reality. The television is so real to her and it allures her. She cannot carry on a deep conversation without getting off topic and quickly changing the subject to her soap operas. If Mildred is not watching television she is using her “Seashell ear thimbles” which plays the radio. These technologies and the media keep people from gaining important knowledge and thinking their own ideas. Mildred is a media robot who shows no feelings on important issues like war or her own well being.
In the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury there is a key theme. This key theme is that one person can change the course of the way you think entirely. The main character Guy Montage was an ordinary fireman and fits right into society until he meets a girl named Clarisse McClellan. She was a very peculiar girl and ever since Guy Montage met her he could not forget. His outlook on life changed and because of her, he became a rebel. If it was not for her, Guy would have lead the same life everyone else lived but from the few encounters they shared she made a lasting impression on him. “‘that woman, the other night, Millie, you weren’t there. You didn’t see her face. And Clarisse. You never talked to her. I talked to her…’” (page 67) . This is relevant to the world we live in today. Speakers that come to schools or talk to a group of people are purposely trying to change the way others think. Their goal is to leave a lasting impression. For example policeman sometimes come to schools to talk to kids about drinking and driving. They want to convince them not to drink and change the mindset of the kids who think they can.
The theme that became evident to me while reading the book Fahrenheit 451 is the theme over-dependence on technology and how the media controls the lives of everyday people. Clarisse McClellan teaches Guy Montag values that she learned from aprecciating life and not relying that much on technology. Characters in the novel would always be watching TV or with some kind of technological device in their hands at all time. It got to the point that the characters had no clue what was going on in real life. Guy's wife, Mildred, only cares about her TV. Guy can't even have a conversation with her without her bringing up something that happened in the TV episode. This book relates to our world because we, also have a big dependence on technology, even though its not as extreme as in this book.
The main theme in the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is the struggle between ignorance verses intelligence. In this novel, the fire fighters jobs were to burn books. They did this because anyone who read books seemed to gain more knowledge than anyone who did not read books. So in order to keep everyone intellectually similar they burned all books. Although he was a firefighter Montag grew more curious about books though the years. Montag finally gave in and started to read many books and he became hooked. Throughout the book, Montag began to gain more knowledge from the books and began to notice how ignorant people like his wife and friends are. “‘I voted last election, same as everyone, and I laid it on the line for President Noble. I think he’s one of the nicest-looking men ever became president.’” Mrs. Bowles said this in regards to the previous election. Montag could not take their stupidity and ended up taking out a poetry book to show them true intelligence. This shows why the government decided to ban books because of the conflict between ignorance and intelligence
A major theme present in Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is, knowledge versus ignorance. Without reading, society is chaotic and overpowered by the unawareness of its citizens. When I reflect upon this theme, I think about KRS ONE: because in my opinion knowledge reigns supreme over everyone. Moreover, without literature society lacks knowledge therefore rendering everyone ignorant. Clarisse McClellan was the only person that actually realized that the burning of books was corrupting everyone in society. Everyone thought she was insane, when in reality they were insane because they believed that electronics were superior to literature. Thanks to Clarisse, Guy finally came to the realization that book burning was slowly destroying society and everyone in it. He came to the conclusion that reading books is a key part of life that helps everyone develop an understanding of the world and how it works. He discovered with the insight of Clarisse, that without books there is no knowledge and without knowledge the world is ignorant. This is still present today in society because, children aren’t reading as much as they should because technology is replacing their books and corrupting their minds. This is similar to Mildred and her obsession with television and electronics, which corrupted her and made her go insane.
The novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is a novel about the slightly futuristic United States. The main character, Guy Montag is a fireman. But his job is not about putting out fires but starting them instead. He enjoys the sight of burning paper such as books. But, when he arrives home one night, he finds that he is not happy after all and he just thought he was. This relates to today because you hear of many stories that someone is very rich and that they can have anything they want, but they aren’t really happy. Montag is not happy with his wife because she watches TV all day and takes many sleeping pills, which almost killed her last time. They also sleep separately which shows a bad connection not to mention they can’t even remember where they first met. Montag feels that burning the old woman earlier in the book was horrible. He wonders if the job of a fireman really is what he knows it to be. The stories of the wealthy people are cliché but it is common. Although Montag is not wealthy, the part about being happy is true.
In the classic novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, the main theme in the story is censorship, and how it impacts humanity. Fahrenheit 451 is set in a futuristic world where people are very dependent on technology. Knowledge and intellect are so frowned upon in their society that the main character, Guy Montag, was hired to burn books of classic authors. His wife Mildred is one of the many people in their society who illustrates the overall theme of censorship. Every day she listens to music on her earphones and doesn’t care about anyone’s business or feel any emotion towards anything. She and Guy Montag have no clue when or where they first met, and when she learns that a neighbor, Clarrisa—who Guy had recently met and liked—died, she forgets to tell Guy for four days. This is still a problem today, because in our world, people are becoming more obsessed by technology and less interested in books, culture and knowledge.
The theme of Fahrenheit 451 is Control. In the book the main goal for the town is to have everyone happy. As the book goes on the main character Guy Montag encounters a girl who thinks and acts differently than anyone else in the town. This encounter enforces a new way of thinking for Guy Montag. When the girl dies Montag talks to his head chief of the fire department about the girl. The girl is described as not normal, she always wanted to know why not how. In the novel everyone is set to one certain way of thinking, the books are burned because they tell the truth and for some the truth is scary, it makes certain people unhappy. The books have to be destroyed. The televisions tell you what to think, they plant it into your brain. Nobody is allowed to think differently, they have everything that could ever make them happy yet they're not happy. Everything is controlled by society. Today things are still controlled by government but not completely to the point where nobody else's thoughts are counted.
In the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury the key themes that are present are awareness and the overuse of technology. In the novel the main character Guy Montag’s job is to burn “English-influenced books.” People in Montag’s society that are aware are the ones that read books and therefore are considered to be crazy or insane. In reality the people that are insane are the ones who are over powered by technology and do not read books. The purpose of burning books is to achieve sameness in the utopian society that Guy Montag lives in. Montag’s neighbor Clarisse was considered to be a strange girl because she thought for herself and this was unusual and not found in society. Montag’s wife Mildred is over powered by technology and believes that she has another family that is in a program that she watches at all times of the day. Montag concludes that the program comes between him and his wife. This is present in society today when we see kids and adults buying new technology such as iPods and iPads which come to over power ones life.
A major theme in the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury would be the contrast of the suppressed government versus freedom of thought. The government has manipulated the public into thinking that books are dangerous and a waste of time. Instead, they allow the public to “educate” themselves through technology such as television and the radio. Guy Montag, a fireman who burns books, hasn’t had an interest of what’s in-between the pages until two people named Clarisse McClellan and Professor Faber gave him a new perspective. Clarisse ask questions and enables her mind to wonder and think outside the box, while Faber helped Montag to become aware that books help one to understand what the world is like, and how their lifestyle was so different from it. Beatty, a fellow fireman tells Montag that the only way to make everyone happy is to make everyone equal, but soon enough, Montag acts against the law and begins to read more and more books. He came to realize that what the overpowering government was doing to society was corrupting the idea of knowledge and freedom of thought. This theme can also relate to children today, and how more kids are becoming more interested in interacting with technology instead of reading a book and learning valuable pieces of knowledge to prepare themselves for the real world.
A theme of Fahrenheit 451 is the amount of media and technology in society. The amount of media changes people in society and separates them from reality. In Guy Montag’s society the firefighters start fires to burn all the books instead of putting out fires. In Guy Montag’s society people are not allowed to read books because it could make them intellectually unequal. Instead of seeing that books are an important source of knowledge and reason. In Fahrenheit 451 Mildred Montag pays more attention and time with her “TV family” then her husband Guy. Reliance on technology is great, similar to our society today. Most children today play video games or watch TV, blurring their reality. We as a society when watching TV are not able to form our own opinions on important topics. The effect on media of our society is increasing every day, hopefully never to the effect it has on Mildred.
A major theme in Fahrenheit 451 is the dependency on technology. Rooms such as parlors or television become a substitute for important things in everyday life such as literature, knowledge, and curiosity of the world. Television is the enemy in the novel, citizens in the society were unable to learn new things, or think about other interests. Mildred Montag is an example of how she was more interested in her ‘television family’ then her actual husband Guy. Every time Guy would try to talk to her, she would always resist and talk about something else, like her soap operas. Media takes over the society, and has a greater effect on everyday life because it bought happiness to the citizens. Death, and other outrageous news such as war, were things they only seen on television. In the novel technology was used at all times. It bought the civilization happiness so that the bad in the outside world wouldn’t get them upset. This novel relates to our world today and the fast growing technology because everyone is using new technology all over the world. Devices such smart phones, lap tops, iPads or iPods are constantly used in society today. The social media has revolved around our everyday lives, and from what is seen in the book, it could become a major issue.
In the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, a major theme is the idea of ignorance overpowering intelligence. Throughout the novel we follow Guy Montag on his journey through a society where everyone has the same opinion about everything. Guy was a firefighter that was assigned to burn books in order to keep all of society at the same level of intelligence. He burned the books to help keep all the people happy, which he later realized was actually a hinderance to himself and his community. Guy's head firefighter, Beatty, represents the ignorance in their world. At one point in the book he explains the reasons that the books have to be burned. "If you don't want a man unhappy politically, don't give him two sides to a question to worry him; give him one. Better yet, give him none. Let him forget there is such thing as war. If the government is inefficient, top heavy, and tax-mad, better it be all those than that people worry over it. Peace, Montag. Give the people contests they win by remembering the words to more popular songs or the names of state capitals or how much corn Iowa grew last year. Cram them full of noncombustible data, chock them so damned full of 'facts' they feel stuffed, but absolutely 'brilliant' with information. Then they'll feel they're thinking. They'll get a sense of motion without moving. And they'll be happy because facts of that sort don't change." I think that this idea is in our society today because in many instances children are told and taught certain things that they should just know, but not many classes really require a large amount of thinking on your own. In many instances, children are not required to use their own intelligence to problem solve and think outside the box. How many times do children just ask "why ?" and are told "its just the way it is" and they're expected to be satisfied with that answer and not question it again. This leads children to not think outside the box and accept whatever information is given to them.
The biggest theme in Farenhiet 451 is censorship. In this book Firemen such as Guy Montag burn books. They burn the books becuase their government does not want the information in the books to be seen by the public. Censorships has been used in the past and is still used today. Censorships can even be seen in the seeds of our modern country. When america was first being colonized people living here were only allowed to write letters to family that made the colonies look good. The government of these colonies censored any information that they deemed negative. Many governments, especially communist ones have censored outside informantion. They have also done as the firemen in Farenheit 451 did and burned books. Censorship was used by certain govenments to control the majority of their contries population. Some modern countries that have very good examples of censorship are North Korea, Libya, Cuba and Burma. These countries are very strict with what their citizens here and violating the rules has sever consequences. Censorships is everywhere even here in out own country (even if we cant see it). Censorship has been and probably always will be around.
Ray Bradbury's most important theme in Fahrenheit 451 is censorship. Within this theme is also the idea of loss of free thought. Characters such as Mildred and her friends are constantly bombarded with facts and entertainment, unable to think with all of this coming so fast. Most of the citizens in the city are not even aware of the looming war for the are always distracted and seem to not care what goes on outside of their four parlor walls. These ideas prevail in the world today as people become less in tune with each other and wisdom and are continuing to lean more toward technology and instant gratification. People are losing their concern for outside matters that do not include themselves or the things they have.
The theme that stands out most for me in Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, is knowledge and wisdom. Throughout the novel, knowledge and wisdom is discouraged by the firemen. Guy Montag, the main character, is a fireman and his job is to destroy all books. In their opinion, books are responsible for most of the knowledge in the world, but to them, it’s not a good thing. When people know things, that leads to questioning. After Guy meets Clarisse McClellan, his new neighbor, he begins to question his life. Clarisse is a questioner. She wouldn’t ask how something was done, but simply, why it was done. Her personality makes Guy realize he’s not exactly happy with his job. This theme is still around today because when people read books, they gain knowledge from reading. This knowledge turns into questioning and then in the blink of an eye people have a hunger to learn more. The theme of knowledge and wisdom can go a long way in this dystopian novel.
In the novel Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, there are many important themes. One theme that I really got out of the book was conformity. The beginning of the book opens up with Montag’s normal routine that he does every day, which was basically him going to the fire house, coming back home and then either watching the parlor or going to sleep. No one asked any questions and that was reality for everyone in the city. Since it was forbidden to read books the only source of information people had was the parlor, and since that is all people watched it made everyone exactly the same. The parlor “fed” them enough action and entertainment to satisfy them and no one asked any questions. This theme is defiantly relevant today but most certainly not to that extent. Just like the parlor the news channels are the same way. They could practically say anything and people will go with it as long as there is some sort of proof. The world is so large that if the news channel says something happened in another country most people are going to believe it because they aren’t there to see it for themselves.
One theme that is clearly displayed in the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is that of Censorship. This book takes place in a dystopian society where books are illegal and everyone is almost the same because they never question their surroundings. The protagonist Guy Montag works as a fireman whose job is to burn all books. He does not question his work and why books aren't allowed until he meets this young girl named Clarisse McClellan who inspires him to question society and think freely. Free thinking and literature is banned in this society which makes everyone think the same way so people are happy, and don’t question their government which could spark a revolution. We still see examples of censorship in today’s world such as the government keeping information from their citizens in politics, the use of textbooks in education, and deleted obscenities within music and pop culture.
The theme that is apparent in the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is the overuse of technology. In the novel Mildred the wife of Guy Montag spends most of her days in the parlor watching television. She is so obsessed with television that most of Guy’s paycheck from being a Fireman is spent on buying more televisions. Mildred is not the only person that does this everyone else in their society does the same thing and the reason for this is happiness. Books are not allowed because with books comes opinions and intelligence, which brings people to become less happy. Only when Guy meets Clarisse does he begin to think what he is really doing with his life. It was like he was just running through the motions before. He begins to read books and realize what everyone is missing
While reading this novel it is very easy to make connections to our society today. The people of today’s society think nothing of how big a role technology plays in our daily lives. People can’t go 15 minutes without looking on their phones or going on Facebook. People don’t go outside they just sit inside and watch television.
Throughout Ray Bradbury’s novel Fahrenheit 451 there are many themes but one of the more important themes that stands out frequently is censorship. Throughout the novel Bradbury talks about how the stimulation and entertainment of televisions and radios are dragging people away from books, which are not worth reading to get confused and ultimately bring empty thought. Books were completely illegal in the society depicted by Bradbury’s novel. Books are not only banned because of the empty thought that they will bring to a person but also that they may offend one person and are full of conflicting ideas but ultimately bring about revolts and revolutions and this is one thing the government doesn’t want to deal with even though there is a severe intellectual loss. As well as the loss of books people are expecting to be fed information and they don’t think for themselves. An example is when Mildred’s friend had voted for the president for his looks shows this society being very superficial. Overall the people in Bradbury’s society end up living vapid lives.
In the book Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, there are many obvious themes. One theme that stands out to me is ignorance. Guy montag lives in a world where people are cut off from things that allow them to question, such as books. Society has cut people off from anything that could cause some sort of unsettlement, or something that could have to the ability to make someone question. This then causes people to be ignorant to their surroundings. If someone were to show themselves as being curious, they would be monitored. All of the people were basically being kept at an intellectual stop. In other words, a utopia was trying to made and sustained. But is there really such a thing as a utopia? Guy was one of the few who began questioning, and disturbing this perfect world, also releasing himself from ignorance.
The main theme in the prose Fahrenheit 451 is dependency on technology. It had exemplified how dependent society is on technology and that they won’t think to accept anything else…non technology based. Though the prose had also shown courage by Guy Montag standing up for what he had believed in and having to sneak around risking his life and sanity nearly every single day, because he had struck someone whom had tried to burn his library since they’d burn all of the books trying to prevent unequal opportunities of intelligence. Guy had eventually run into a Clarisse McClellan and she had helped to show him the beauty and wonders to the world, helping him to love and appreciate society and life a whole lot more.
It is apparent to myself that the most portraying theme in the novel Fahrenhiet 451 is censorship. The destruction of books, and knowledge was able to bring about a population intellectually equal. Therefore leaving no one abased by another who is intellectually stronger. The burning of books also kept a "peace" among the society, for books would spark a revolution due to increased knowledge. Hence why individuals such as Clarisse were classified as a minority for she also enjoys the innocence of nature. Instead of reading, the vast population enjoys driving fast, watching television, listen to radio and other pleasing activities. The society doesn't seem to comprehend the amount of censorship in their lives due to the amount of pleasure and happiness their simplistic lives grants them. Unlike today, although there is censorship within our society, people often question "why". Not only because they desire to know further information upon their restrictions, but because they have the right to do so. This novel has also enlightened myself how fortunate we are to be living in a country where we can question our leaders. Unlike dictatorship around the world, where censorship is used daily and people don't question due to fear or ignorance.
One theme taken from this book is ignoring the past may lead to a troubled future. The main character in the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, which takes place in the future, is Guy Montag. His mind soon becomes interested in what once was. He starts to think to himself that he is just told, that the books he burns are bad for people but he never found out why. Montag starts to think about his life and what it truly means which most cannot do anymore, think for themselves. He sees how wrong the people in the city are and becomes an outcast himself who is running from the law. He creates a plan, which will be put into action, when the world is at an all time low. Then they will reintroduce the once lost past. These citizens were manipulated into leaving the past behind them. So the same problems that were there yesterday will be back today. This theme is still relevant today in that individuals go to war after experiencing war. They understand the cost, in both death and money. We go through all the fighting for all the same reasons. If society learned from the past wars and make changes, maybe lives would not be put at risk anymore. If we do not learn from our past them the negative parts of our history will repeat; if we learn from our past and hold on to it then the negative will no longer repeat.
The main theme of Fahrenheit 451 is how media and technology sway
society’s opinions. In the world where Fahrenheit 451 was based,
government censored everything to prevent problems and to make everyone happy. The government thought if they could control what goes in to people’s minds, they could keep them from thinking thoughts about war and revolting. The government chooses to band books to prevent people from getting other ideas and starting a revolution. Guy Montag opinion was first sways by the media because he was just brought up to believe books were bad, there fore he became a fire fighter who burned books. Once Montag was exposed to books he realized how much freedom humans used to have. In the world we live in today media sway our opinions is hidden. We don’t realize how we always want to live the life they show in media; therefore it controls what we think.

One theme of this book that stands out to me is happiness and the pursuit of happiness. In the novel Fahrenheit 451 the main character montag in the beginning Montag was perfectly content with his job and his life. Montag worked as a fireman and his job was to burn any books that anyone might have in there possession. Montag never questioned why he would do this it was just the way things were but that all changed when he met his new neighbor a seventeen year old girl who was full of questions she questioned everyone and everything which in turn made Montag begin to question and wonder and fantasize himself. One day he was going to burn a house and the owner of the books wouldn't leave her house and her books this was very puzzling to Montag because he just couldn't understand what was in books that made someone want to die for them. This began a storing in him he had collected books and began reading them unfortunately the fire chief had found out about this and made Montag burn his own house Montag killed him and ran from the city. He did all of this because something in him didn't feel happy with the way things were.
After reading Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury I saw several themes however, one stood out in particular. The main theme to me is determination. Their whole society is based on equality; this is why they burn books to prevent anyone from becoming superior and smarter than the rest. Once Montag meets Clarisse he begins to question his job and wonders what it is like to read a book. After Montag eventually turns on the Fire Department and, realizes book are more important to him the reader realizes the determination in Montag. Montag then turns to a man named Faber to help him understand books. Shortly after the Fire Department realizes Montag is hiding books they make it their mission to kill him. While eluding the Fire Departments chase Montag comes across a group of intellectuals lead by a man named Grander who help him. Montag discovers that this group of men has read books and is part of a group of thousands nationwide that have remembered sections of books. Through Montag’s determination he gave up everything he had his wife, his job and, all for the sake of books. Montag along with the group of men he met made it their goal to one day bring books back to the society and they felt that this day was close epically with heroes like Montag. Montag is a hero because he was determined to go against society and try and bring something special back. This relates to heroes in today’s society. My definition of a hero is someone who risks everything to save something special. This is what Montag proved to be risking his life to save and help grow literature. An example of a modern day hero is a firefighter or a police officer; these men are determined to risk everything to save someone else’s life proving determination is still a very relevant theme amongst heroes today.
A major theme throughout the novel Farenheit 451 is the misuse of technology and media by the government in order to sedate its citizens. This leads to uniform intelligence and a limited life view. This “utopia” was designed to emphasize pleasure over intellect and uses instant gratification as a means of pacifying society. Guy Montag's wife, Mildred is a model citizen of Farenheit 451 society. Like many of her fellow citizens, Mildred becomes obsessed with technology. She shuts out the world by watching television and listening to music through her headphones. Someone who contradicted this way of living is the character of Clarisse. Considered a threat to society, Clarisse was one of the few people who questioned the "whys" of life, and not the "hows." Clarisse introduces Guy Montag to the beauty of nature, and a life he may have never known. Clarisse is able to do this because she’s not caught up in technology. She rebels against society with a curious, questioning mind, and a deep appreciation for books and nature. This story is relevant today because of our growing dependence on technology. If not kept in check, we could soon end up with the same “utopian” society of Farenheit 451.
In the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury the key theme in my eyes is the impact of technology on society. Technology can blur the line between reality and a fantasy world very easily for many people. Mildred Montag is an example of this, how she was more interested in her ‘television family’ then her actual husband Guy. When Guy meets Clarisse things change drastically for him, he realizes what he's been missing once he starts reading books and begins to see how much he really is missing and how things used to be. In society today many people are too caught up in whats going on on their phones or emails they would never realizes things like Guy did by stopping and reading a book and finding something new and life changing, instead society today could end up like Guys wife Mildred, completely oblivious to the real world.
A theme that stood out to me in Fahrenheit 451 is Government control vs. individual freedom. Every one is basically brainwashed to believe books aren’t essential, when in actuality; books are the resource of knowledge. A lot of people believe whatever a government official or someone important in the world has to say, solely for the purpose of that person being an important figure. It is assumed that their opinions are superior then all others, because they ‘have’ to be smart. This issue also deals with ignorance among individuals, many people are afraid to speak for them and say what they feel, so just agree with others opinions. This still happens in the world today, and probably will keep happening.
In my opinion, the key theme in the novel Fahrenheit 541 by Ray Bradbury is simply, technology. An overuse of technology seemed to be a reoccurring topic throughout the novel. Characters such as Milred Montag were literally obsessed with inventions like the television. In most cases Milred would chose technology over her husband , Guy. Whenever they do converse, its always an update on a recent television show. This eventually took a major tole on their relationship. Milred does not seem to care about the outside world and problems, such as war. If she’s not watching television, she's listening to her seashell ear thimbles that play music. This relates to society today. Everyone is so concentrated with the unimportant factors of life, like new television shows and music. More citizens need to realize what’s more significant. Some individuals need a dose of reality. Society today depends too much on technology, and not enough on each other.
Throughout Fahrenheit 451 a theme that stands out substantially is knowledge, or in this case the lack of it. In Bradbury's novel the reader is told of a society in which books are looked down upon so much so they are illegal. When society tunes out something such as books and turns to media for knowledge they get everything but it. The main character in the novel was a fire fighter named Guy Montag who was a firefighter but more or less was a firestarter. It was his job to go around and burn books. Montag liked his job, not because he hated book but simply because he got a rush from destroying things. But one may look at a society like this and think of the age old saying "ignorance is bliss" but events in Fahrenheit 451 prove this saying wrong. Without knowledge and the drive to learn people were zombies, no interest was sparked for tasked that would better themselves mentally. Sadly, today we see these things all around us. our youth are growing up with technology as their best friend. If they need help with their summer reading assignment, they would go to Google to see if it may produce a more intelligent interpretation for the book they had to read. If a child is bored they immerse themselves in the fictional world of television. Although Bradbury's novel Fahrenheit 451 was written decades ago, it still has a valid interpretation of the constant dumbing down of society. And if we are not careful, in the near future our world may not look much different from that of Fahrenheit 451.
A major theme in Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury was how the use of technology destroyed society’s interest in reading. The “Parlors” in the novel are an advanced form of television which the author used to show the corruption technology had on the people. Bradbury shows this through Montag’s wife Mildred. Mildred is shown to be addicted to watching her TV shows, and can’t keep full attention to anything that doesn’t involve them. The connection between Mildred and her shows are portrayed as even stronger then her relationship with her husband. In this futuristic society were the use of technology has conquered the people’s interest to read, the state was shown to be the enemy. However it was really the people’s fault because they let themselves be consumed by the mass media. This theme is still relevant today because it is an actual problem due to the advancement in technology. People have become obsessed with technology over the years, constantly using electronics wither it be using a phone, iPod, computer, or watching TV. People have lost interest in literature, and have become more attracted to sports and media.
The theme of Fahrenheit 451 is censorship. Books are banned to prevent people from forming their own opinions. They are not allowed to think for themselves. Montag’s wife was also brainwashed to believe technology was more important than human contact. She did not care if it took her husbands entire salary, she wanted the newest and best technology had to offer. This however only made it easier for her to be controlled and not think about the negatives of their society. The fact that there is so much entertainment, people forget how to think which prevents them from rebelling against their society, to question what is right and wrong. However everyone is so caught up with their own fun, censorship is not even recognized.
